Girls Fall Fashions
From LoveToKnow Childrens Clothing
When leaves begin changing colors from green to orange and red, and kids head back to school, get ready to outfit girls in an assortment of girls' fall fashions.
Typical Fall Fashions
Expect to see these clothing items and accessories move into stores around the same time back-to-school specials are advertised:
- Tights: Tights can add an extra layer of warmth and a lot of personality to a girl's outfit, especially if they're patterned or brightly colored. While solid, basic-color tights are often the only kind permitted with school uniforms, when girls aren't in school, let them wear tights with a bit more flair. You'll find tights with stripes, polka dots, flowers, hearts, teddy bears and many more girl-friendly designs.
- Leggings: Whether leggings come all the way to the ankles or stop at Capri-length, they're great for wearing under tunics, dresses and other long tops. Like tights, leggings are available in a wide range of colors and patterns. Wear plain, solid-colored leggings under busy patterns, and save whimsical designs when her dress or top is simple and subdued.
- Sweaters: If fall is a girl's favorite season, no doubt she's waited all year to wear her favorite sweaters. Pullovers are only one option. She can also wear sweater vests and look adorable in a selection of cardigans.
- Long sleeved tops: Button-up tops and turtlenecks are fall staples. Many long-sleeved shirts work well under sweaters of all types. Pair a button-up shirt with a cardigan or V-neck pullover. A turtleneck looks great beneath a sweater vest.
- Heavier dresses: For girls who live in dresses year-round, corduroy and sweater dresses are just what she needs to stay warm and fashionable in autumn.
- Jackets: While it may not be cold enough for a heavy or long coat, jackets will come in handy on crisp mornings and evenings.
- Hats: Whether a girl feels a hat is a necessity or just wants to add some flair to her outfit, hats come in a wide array of styles to suit anyone. Ski hats, close fitting watch caps, bucket hats in heavy fabrics and French-type berets are all perfect for fall weather.
What to Expect in Girls' Fall Fashions
It's time to put the sundresses and lightweight cotton fabrics away. Fall calls for different attire, whether a girl is preparing to go to school or just needs clothes to keep her warm for the next couple of seasons. Typically, fall fashions will differ from warm weather styles in several ways:
- Colors: Gone are the pastels. Expect to see deeper, richer colors, including plenty of orange, brown and red.
- Materials: Cotton and linen will be replaced with wool, tweed and corduroy. Different areas receive different types of fabrics. Stores in warmer climates don't usually stock the types of heavy materials sold in snowy climates.
- Accessories: Unlike spring and summer, when it can be too hot to wear a lot of layers, girls' fall fashions call for layering items such as tee shirts, camisoles and cardigans. Depending on how chilly it is where you live, you may also need hats to cover little heads, mittens or gloves, and scarves.
When to Shop
You'll find fall fashions in stores before it actually begins to cool off, so shop early for the best selection. As the season wears on, however, you'll find items marked down. It's a good idea to stock up on accessories such as tights, leggings, hats and socks when they're on sale – these are pieces a girl will need all fall and winter. While shopping at the end of the season will yield the lowest prices, remember that kids can be incredibly finicky – the fall fashions a girl loves this year may be deemed outdated the next.
Whether she loves to wear jeans and sweaters, or is strictly a dress and Mary Janes girl, fall fashions can keep a girl warm and oh-so-stylish all autumn long.
