Bright Girls Clothing

In any season, it's fun to wear bright clothes

At any age, it's fun to buy and wear bright girls' clothing. While children's clothing was historically more muted, a physical manifestation of the adage that children should be seen but not heard at mealtimes, fabrics have grown far more vibrant. When children are small, you can mix and match patterns and colors to even more wild effect. There is no end of fun garments from which to choose.

Looks of Bright Girls Clothing

These days, it's actually more difficult to find clothes for girls that don't feature bright colors and patterns. Any shop that carries children's clothes is overflowing with color. Even winter items, which traditionally are more muted, are designed to stand out on a dull day. With the Emo look being in, young girls are even asking to have their hair tinted in bright colors.

Girls' clothing was last this uniformly bright in the 1980s, when intense colors and boldness was the order of the day. The average girl might have paired a royal-blue skirt with a pink blouse, purple necklace, green headband, yellow tights and multi-colored shoes, perhaps with striped socks.

In the 1990s, older girls tended more towards a darker look to suit the grunge fashion. A more 1980s look is now trendy, although older girls keep more to two color choices, rather than mixing it up so vividly. A bright outfit might now be a mix of shocking pink and electric blue with darker accessories.

Spring Dresses

Especially since the 1950s, bright girls' clothing has bloomed in spring dresses. A little girl is representative of spring, in her way, and so it is only natural that parents would want to dress her in lovely florals. Whether specifically for Easter or any dressy occasion in spring, you can always find an array of colorful dresses to suit any little girl. Older girls also gravitate toward colorful spring dresses. Many of the options are more two-toned, such as a turquoise dress with hot-pink sash. Florals are always popular, sometimes with a retro 1960s look. This will usually feature a pink, yellow or green background and large, simply drawn flowers in a contrasting color. You can add to the 1960s look with a matching headband, an accessory that has become popular again.

Rain Gear

Who says bright girls' clothing can't also be practical? Little girls have adored bright rain clothes for decades - you only need to read the classic Ramona the Pest to confirm it. Back then, Ramona desperately wanted bright red boots, instead of the brown hand-me-downs her parents gave her. These days, children can get boots in every color and pattern imaginable, including some that look like animals. Whereas children's rain coats have usually been bright yellow, so that they are visible even in heavy rain and fog, girls can also opt for raincoats in many vivid shades with floral or other patterns. The coats often come with matching umbrellas and sometimes even hats. Some of them are so cute, grown women often find themselves envious of their tinier counterparts. Just because the weather is nasty, no one need look dull.

Bright and Practical

Whether you are looking for jeans, T-shirts or athletic clothes for the girl who wants to stand out a mile, bright items are available. At any age, however, it is important to remember that the practicality of the item, unless it is a special occasion dress, should be considered above its look. A budding fashionista might disagree, but young girls should feel free to run and play as they like without worrying about getting their clothes dirty or stained. Look for fabrics that are more natural and easily machine washed, preferably with dyes that won't run. Bright clothes are fun, but they should be easy to wear and take care of too.
