Abercrombie & Fitch introduced abercrombie in 1997 with just a handful of stores in the hopes of attracting a younger audience. Today, the store offers upscale casual apparel and accessories for both boys and girls. The company’s new focus is to offer styles that mimic Abercrombie & Fitch clothing. For example, abercrombie kids jeans bear the same back-pocket-stitching pattern as Abercrombie & Fitch. In addition the company’s moose logo is prominently displayed on clothing as is the name "abercrombie."

However, the most controversial slogans were featured on a line of abercrombie kids underwear for young girls with the sayings "Wink Wink" and "Eye Candy" screen-printed on the backsides. Following the release of the sexually suggestive underwear, outraged parents mounted storefront protests. Company officials refused to stop carrying the underwear and instead remarked that the panties were meant to be "cute" not controversial.

Abercrombie kids clothing is available in stores and online at abercrombiekids.com. As of July 2009 abercrombie kids had a total of 210 stores open in the United States. The only states that do not feature abercrombie kids retailers include:

Abercrombie kids stores are also located in Canada. The company’s first Canadian store opened in 2008 in Toronto. Its second store, located in Edmonton, opened in spring 2009 and marked the company’s push to expand internationally. An abercrombie kids international flagship store is scheduled to open in Milan in fall 2009. The new abercrombie kids store will be the first international store for the abercrombie brand.

Company executives say its new international stores will mirror those found in the North America. International shoppers can expect to browse in open spaces with bright lighting and hear loud electronic dance music and pop music from young artists. In addition, all abercrombie kids stores smell like the retailer’s signature fragrance as it is sprayed storewide..
